The West Valley of Phoenix is proud to home to Luke Air Force Base.
In 1941, Del E. Webb Construction Company began the excavation of Litchfield Park Air Base (the base would be renamed to Luke in June 1941). Since then Luke, the largest fighter training base in the world, has trained over 50,000 of America’s fighter pilots. Luke employs over 8,500 military and civilian personnel. Luke generates nearly $1.5 billion of our state’s economy each year.
My husband retired from Luke in 1998 after 20 years of Air Force service. While I wish his hearing was better, I truly believe his service to our country is the most heroic thing a person could do. To this day, I stop and stare in awe as the F-16's fly over our valley. What an amazing sight.
I hope to provide a basic overview of the area around Luke and some insight into living near the base. If you are PCSing here from another base, I would be happy to help you with your search for a home. I also have extensive relocation information on the Phoenix Metro area.
For those who are already stationed here or retired military, I have some great resources for you too. On the left, you can read the latest headlines from one of my favorite sites; Military.com. They have some excellent information on VA Loans and other benefits for active duty and retired military.
While Luke calls Glendale, AZ. home, many of the surrounding communities embrace Luke as their own. Peoria, Goodyear, Surprise, Litchfield Park, El Mirage, Avondale, Buckeye........ the list goes on. |
